Capturing the imagination and fascination of young people is so important when introducing the beauty of Cambrian Mountains dark skies.
Recently Dafydd from the Cambrian Mountains Initiative CIC visited Ysgol Y Dderi Llangybi, to share his experiences of enjoying the Cambrian Mountains dark skies.
With a series of inspiring photos, the young pupils interacted well with many knowing so much already about the night sky. The “North Lights” answer from the Year 2 pupil was astounding.
We had a brief discussion about the use of light at night and how important it is for families to use light responsibly. The children loved this slide!
We’d like to thank the Ysgol Y Dderi school for the invitation to visit, especially as Dafydd was the school’s science coordinator/teacher over twenty years ago.
We hope that children will be looking up this week, Wales Dark Skies Week 2023, in the hope of seeing planets, constellations, galaxies and ‘shooting stars’.
